4 stars (A real tool for attaining health and fitness for life) - Body for Life for Women should be considered an essential guide for women's preventive heath. Because it is focused specifically on the unique health and fitness needs and problems encountered by women, it is much more valuable for women than general health or diet texts. While it promotes a plan of "12 weeks to a fabulous body"; to see it as a mere diet or fitness book sells short its real value. A diet book may help us (temporarily) lose a few pounds; this book aims to show us how to create a healthy body in which we can live independently throughout our lives. As a spokesperson on health, Dr. Peeke is the real thing. She is an expert on the most current understanding of nutrition, preventive health and women's issues. The book is well written, inspiring and accessible. It gives women, especially those of us over 40, real hope and guidance as we wonder why "what we have always done" to stay fit is not working any more. I found especially interesting the section on life milestones, which describes a woman's health priorities at each stage of life. The mind principles, which urge us to examine the attitudes that shape our behavior, are a wake-up call. Dr. Peeke is a big fan of the Nike slogan "Just Do It". In this book, she tells us exactly what it is that we must just do and provides the tools and motivation to keep doing it. 5 stars (You won't believe it!) - I have completed my 12 week program and am astounded by the results. 4 stars (Understanding and Healing a Woman's Soul.) - If your a man and just can't seem to figure out woman, then this book is not necessarily for you. I would encourage you to read John Eldredge's, the co-authors other book, "Wild at Heart". It touches on everything in this book, and will also help you understand yourself better as a man, which in turn will help you come to a better understanding of what makes woman tick. If you are a male that is into counseling woman then I would recommend this book to you. From my interaction with woman over the years, I can see this book bringing healing to many a woman's life, as long as they give the book a chance and are honest with themselves. I do see some anger in some of the other reviews, but I really think these reviewers are just missing the point. As a man I do find the type of woman that the author tries to lead all woman to become, to be the only ones that I truly find Captivating. 5 stars (Finding Contentment is not easy, but can be accomplished!) - Life throws many curves. When my husband lost his job and I was an at home mom at the time, I was filled with anxiety. This book was my lifeline. I gained strength and courage to deal with daily struggles. I learned to thank God for my situation rather than asking him to change it. Believe me, there were days when I wanted relief and I drew strength from God to keep going. Eventually my husband found another job and we moved closer to family. 2 stars (ugh) - like the other books in the series, it is rife with stereotypes. readers of these books would never guess from reading them that christian men and women have any sexual problems aside from piggish man who thinks only of satisfying his animal desires and wants a physicallyperfect specimen and woman who dont really like sex but because they have been attacked and/or didnt get enough attention from their daddies will grit their teeth and get through it to get the attention and romance. 4 stars (So far, so good) - I'm 26 years old and for the past 5 years, I have compromised myself for the sake of being in a relationship. I have decided that I do not want to do this anymore and recently began searching for reading material to help me (along with my Bible of course). Yesterday, when I saw this book, I felt compelled to buy it. I'm on page 43...and so far, so good. I must admit that it's made me blush a few times because the writings are so frank, but I appreciate Mrs. Ethridge's honesty especially since my parents we unable to counsel me in this manner. I would recommend that parents read it along with their children so that they can answer the many questions that will be asked...and of course, the many times that blushing will happen. 5 stars (An Answer to Our Prayer of S.O.S.) - My soon-to-be-husband and I try to live as closely to His will and word as we can, but even so, disagreements had been tearing us apart recently. Even as we approach the doorstep of marriage, we'd begun to have doubts because of the frequent misunderstandings. He heard a radio spot on a Christian station talking about the book and, in a desperate attempt to mend our relationship, he mentioned it to me. I was just as frustrated as he was, so I bought it the next day. I read the whole book in about 3 hours. It was an easy read and, for someone so anxious to make things better, I couldn't put it down. He was at work when I read it in its entirity, but last night was eye-opening and awe-inspiring. Ladies, I highly recommend making a list of questions to ask your significant other/husband while reading. So many things occurred to me, even things like, "Do you really see it this way?" or, "Is this really how you feel when I say/do ____?" We assume that men are all simpletons, and they play the role rather convincingly sometimes, but this book gives great insight. Because of simple changes in wording, I was able to understand quite a few things about him that I thought I knew (but didn't get) before. The conversation we had based on the questions I wrote ironed out SO many things that had been plaguing us for several MONTHS; we haven't been this happy since the few spark-filled days after we first met. Finally, I must add something I found very helpful from this book. For longer than I've known my husband-to-be, I've struggled with depression. He's often encouraged me (in a concerned way, not a degrading one) to do things like lose weight or be active or have a more active social/spiritual life. 5 stars (Informative Read) - I must say I was leery about reading yet another "how to" book about dating but after strong encouragement from others who have read the book, I purchased it and must admit I was very pleased and refer back to it quite a bit. I've just recently started dating again after a long hiatus, but as this book states, I was taking care and healing self so I can attract the kind of man for me. He provides pointers and tips and believe me they actually work. This particular time in my life I have a very healthy and fun outlook towards dating. 4 stars (HUMAN FACTORS) - I AM A BIG FAN OF THE AUTHOR, AND HAVE USED HIS WORKS IN THE PRACTICE OF MY WORK MANY TIMES, THE BOOK, IS GOOD WITH MANY PRACTICAL EXAMPLES, BUT SADLY DOES NOT SEEM TO TELL ME ANYMORE THAN I ALREADY KNEW. ....I WAS HOPING FOR MORE. SUPERB THOUGH AS A REFERENCE BOOK. 3 stars (great reference - cd is pretty worthless) - this book is a great reference for those who deal in any way with the human form. i, for example, am a 3d character animator and this book is perfect for nailing correct human proportions and visualizing range of motion. however, the accompanying cd is basically an advertisement for ErgoForms, the autocad version of the drawings in the book. only the 1% man drawing (the smallest average male figure)is included on the cd, which is pretty useless for what i need. if the book weren't so expensive i'd give it a four star rating. i thought i was getting more on the cd to warrant the price. 4 stars (Very useful, but use with care) - This is the easiest to use and probably most comprehensive book of human measurement, in my opinion. The data provided in this book is of extreme value to anybody designing anything that physically interacts with human bodies. This is the only complete source of anthropometric data, that I know of, for children of virtually every age range. However, some of the extrapolated data in the book is impractical for real use. For example, children's furniture dimensions recommended by this book are generally too small as they appear to be based upon exact proportions of adult recommendations. This is inappropriate because children's bodies and minds are not exact scale models of adult bodies. Overall, though, I still recommend this book highly, but also recommend very careful use of it. ... 5 stars (For Novices and Those Who Think They're Pros, Too!) - My knowledge of football is limited but I've always enjoyed the game. Holly Robinson Peete writes with humor as well as honing in on the "fears" of women who don't understand the game. I learned a lot and refer to it as I watch this year's onslaught of games. She also provides interesting anecdotal comments and facts about the history of the game and its famous and infamous players. 5 stars (Finally!! It all makes sense) - As a true b-ball fan, I never really appreciated the great american sport of football. I became more and more intrigued by the sport as I followed our Carolina Panthers to the Superbowl, season before last. Although I religiously watched all of the playoff games, I certainly couldn't hold my own in a conversation about the games. But now I have to say I believe I can. Holly, girl, you did the dog gone thing. Men even seemed to be the impressed by the mere fact that I was reading a book about football (as I found at the airport earlier this week).
