How Full Is Your Bucket- Positive Strategies for Work and Life

1 stars (Great idea - Simplistic and extremely short book) - The entire contents of this book could fit in one chapter of most other books. About a third of the book is just pictures of a bucket with text written in it (which was already written on the previous page) and the pages with text have very large printing. I read it in just under 20 minutes and I read at about an average speed. People say that if you take away one good idea from a book, it is worth it. This book has just one basic idea. Although that idea is valuable, it can be found in many, many other books - try Seven Habits of Effective People. If you must read this book, just read it at your local book store because it is a very fast read, and that way you do not have to buy it. I don't mean to empty any buckets here (referring to the authors concepts) but your money will be better spent on many other books with much more significant content. Hope that this helps! 2 stars (Mostly fluff) - The concept is good but I got the point after two pages and the rest was fluff or pictures to take up space. 4 stars (Good but Expensive) - My problem with this book is that it is rather expensive. I will also agree if someone tells me that similar ideas have already been published before. However, I do find "Your Bucket" inspiring. If it wasn't that expensive I would suggest buying it. I think however that there are in fact better books available at Amazon. The best one (and much, much cheeper - especially considering the number of pages) is "Can We Live 150 Year?" although the author of that book does not re-invent the wheel, either. I know many of the simple ideas presented by the author, but I always get new motivation to improve my health and general well-being whenever I reach again for Can We live 150 Year... ...

5 stars (Reluctant teenage readers) - Great book with great ideas. Would love to have the author for a school inservice or training. 5 stars (Wonderful Resource!!!) - I am an assistive technology specialist and wanted to be able to communicate effectively with teachers about lower tech strategies they can use in their classroom. I now will give them a few strategies and point them to this book. I took notes throughout my first reading to ensure I can more readily recall details---I only do this when it's worth the effort! LOVED THIS BOOK! 4 stars (Excellent and Succinct) - Cris Tovani's book clearly and succinctly lays out strategies for helping those students who struggle with reading or pick up a book only reluctantly. Using real world experiences and step by step presentations, the reader comes away with a much better understanding of how to address concerns we all face. 5 stars (Just what you are looking for...) - This book handles all the issues about sexual purity for every young man. Great. 3 stars (It makes me mad how this book portrayes the girls like they are victims.) - Are they victims? One of the girls says, "I was so wanting to wait for my wedding night, but I also wanted to make him happy, so I let it go too far." So its all his fault? He was wrong for pressuring her but she is wrong for letting it happen. She said he herself. "...but I also wanted to make him happy." Forget about his happiness. She said she wanted to wait for her wedding night. So she should have. So stop acting like its all the guys fault. Another girl stated that she really like this guy and he tried some things that made her uncomfortable. She said she asked him to stop but he persisted. "Finally he just wore me down and I eventually gave in. He had weakend my defenses." What! Ok, again. Guys should stop pressuring these girls like this. But it makes me mad that she settled for that. Oh woe is her. For goodness sake stand up and tell the guy no, and if he tries anything again. He's out of here. Another girl said she hated making her boyfriend feel bad and having the blame pushed back on her. So she gave in. So here is another victim. How come these girl couldn't stand up and say that she is not going to do it no matter how much he tries? And if he tries it again. She out of there. I'm sick of this blame being pushed on guys. I know we try. But these girls make it seem like that if we do try they are not powerful enough to resist. Is that true ladies? If it is, no wonder the guys are persistent. I have seen some very strong girls in my time and maybe somebody should teach these girls to be also. I remember a time when I was kissing this girl, which was her idea by the way, but when I tried to see if could have sex with her. She became furious. 2 stars (Skip the profanity) - A fairly good text, it probably covers the field better than other available sources. However, the selection of illustrations seem to be chosen based on how much profanity they can include. I realize that crisis situations involve people who don't monitor their usage, but why include every F--- and other curse word when they aren't needed to convey the meaning. I teach large classes and probably won't adopt this title because of the gratuitous inclusion of verbal static. 5 stars (An invaluable tool in the field of mental health.) - Gilliland and James have successfully created an extremely comprehensive introduction to crisis intervention methodology in this text. While lacking some historical perspective on the development of this methodology, the book incorporates a variety tools useful to the mental health professional. These tools well make up for the exclusion of a short history on crisis intervention. The authors clearly defined various helping situations (i.e., suicide, sexual assault, spousal abuse, and chemical dependency) and demonstrated how their applications assisted in the resolution of these issues. Furthermore, Gilliland and James added the sections on extreme circumstances, such as hostage taking, as well as professional concerns, such as burnout. For those entering the field, this text provides a wealth of information. Those that are well seasoned will still find this a useful reference. On first glance, I was surprised to find this text so easily read, particularly when dealing with such a serious subject, yet I have returned to it time and again in my own practice for ideas and direction. Stop Singing the Blues- 10 Powerful Strategies for Hitting the High Notes in Your Life

5 stars (The Most Powerful Book I've Read This Year!) - I think this book must be the source of the old saying, "Good things come in small packages." I've known Cynthia casually for about three years and knew she was working on a book, so when she called and offered to send me a review copy, I was delighted to get it. When it arrived, however, I admit I was surprised at how small it was. At 112 pages I wasn't sure how important a book it would be. Having read it over the weekend, I now believe this little "manual" is destined to for great things. Dr Barnett has packed amazing material into ten short chapters that made me cry, laugh and certainly inspired me. Her sub-title is, "10 Powerful Strategies for Hitting the High-Notes in Your Life" and she more than fulfills her promise. In a busy world where we "don't have time" to read, this little gem is perfect. Precisely because it is short and powerful and practical, I think it is destined to be a best-seller, perhaps a classic. Like "The Richest Man in Babylon" (less than 100 pages) or "As A Man Thinketh" (about the same length), both written about a hundred years ago and still in the best-seller category, this is one of those books that I'll stick in my briefcase and read over and over again. Her "lessons" are right on the money, and the stories and examples are appropriate and very motivating. This is one of those few, wonderful books that I'll use as a model for my own writing, and that's about the highest praise I can give. Her story-telling is absolutely marvelous. The one criticism that will be leveled against the book is that it's a "woman's book." It's written by a woman and nearly all her examples are about women over-coming obstacles, dealing with difficulty and achieving in life, and while some men will find that off-putting, that's a shame. These are principles about how HUMANS achieve greatness and we men need examples of these truths just as much as women. Buy and read this book. Buy extra copies for...

Trade Like a Hedge Fund- 20 Successful Uncorrelated Strategies Techniques to Winning Profits

1 stars (Another Disappointing Book on Strategy) - Every once in a while I go out and buy another strategy book to flip through, and honestly, I am generally disappointed in what is out there. This book however ranks among the worst. The first sign is the blatant grammatical and spelling errors starting in Chapter 1 (i.e. "...then we are run like hell out of the trade."). The second warning bell comes with the gross misrepresentations about the market in general (i.e. "...low-price stocks translates into a higher-risk premium and, as a category, these low-priced stocks tends to do well..." - again, the author's grammar, verbatim). Sometimes the poor grammar can be chalked up to someone who is so into their game that they skipped less important classes when they were young (i.e. grammar, spelling, literature), and market hype can be the result of true passion, albeit a wee bit overzealous. Unfortunately, the reader quickly discovers the actual content is not very useful either, and is just a re-hashing of weak systems containing catchy buzz words and simplistic formulas. 5 stars (Greate book for system devlopers) - I have been developing trading systems for 5 years and this book has many intesting ideas. I checked most of them out with my data and started trading with some. I think it is a great book for someone who is interested with system development and needs new ideas. 1 stars (Don't waste your time or money.) - This is one of those rare books which are so thin, you can learn as much from their table of contents as from their actual contents. There are a number of things I didn't like about this book and its packaging, but I will only list two for brevities sake. First, there are not "20 Successful Uncorrelated Strategies". "Technique 19" is simply a list of what the author believes doesn't work. 5 stars (Journey of an Art Quilter) - Barbara Olson shares a lot of her knowledge and encourages each and everyone of us to become the artist we were meant to be. I would say that this is not a beginning quilter book but an intermediate to advanced intermediate quilt book. Barbara is sharing and inspiring. Illustrations and directions are clear and this is a very readable book. 5 stars (Sophisticated and Inspiring) - This is not your ordinary show and tell book. The projects are sophisticated and inspiring. Instructions are comprehensive and easy to follow even for a beginner, but an advanced quilter would be impressed and could learn a thing or two. 1 stars (Journey of an Art Quilter: Creative Strategies and Techniques) - I thought it was a very interesting, creative, inspiring book. The second edition adds all of Mark's lectures into what was already a great book, full of very helpful rules of thumb for orientation, materials, siting, and a lot of other design recommendations. A great book made even better the second time around! 5 stars (highly advanced) - A very comprehensive book which leaves you with shortness of breath after each page, covers very well all the aspects of the title and their interaction and effect on planning a building or project of any kind, and gives u alot of new ideas on how to find out the effects of sun,wind and light and from where will the effect be more and how to make advantage of each one of these elements. keeps you woundering whether what you have ever designed before was valid or not. rich in figures and examples, slightly difficult regarding the laguage. but it is worth every penney. 5 stars (Climate Sensitive Design) - This book is very helpful in determining the siting of your building (or gardens)with respect to wind patterns, and sun patterns of your area. As a designer of both indoor and outdoor spaces I found it to be a practical resource for helping ensure the success of a design. When I want shade, I now know where shade will fall; when I want to fill a space with light, I now know where and when light will be there and can adjust my design accordingly. Great book! Would reccommend it to architects, landscape architects and anyone wanting to see how their designs integrate into the daily and seasonal climate, wind, and light patterns of their area.
