1 stars (Is this for Real????????) - To Follow All THe Advice Of This Author. You Would Have to Live The Rest of You're Life In a PLASTIC BUBBLE. This guy should be arrested for writing this B.S. and ripping buyers off. 1 stars (Scam artist) - How can this guy convince people that he holds the cures to diseases and ailments and then get them to fork over money to be enlightened? I had to talk my girlfrineds mother out of buying this turd. The guy is an admitted felon and con-artist and still people send him money. It's sad that he can pray on the fears of the general public and create more disinformation on the pharmaceutical industry. He's an oportunistic bottom feeder out to make a quick buck on fear and false hope. I think there is a place for alternative medicine but his book contains no real information and worse yet, dangerous information. Some of the reviews here are on the edge of being hateful, and I think it's wrong. A review should be about the contents of the book, not about the way one feels about the author. I bought the book and I did find some useful info about alternative medicine. There is also lots of insight about the way big money influences the decision making of FDA. Having said all that, I must admit that I have expected much more from "Natural Cures". No doubt Kevin Trudeau is a good promoter. He is so convincing in his infomercials that it is really hard not to buy the products he advertises. However, the book is everything else but what one would expect to get judging by the title and the infomercial. Supposedly I would get a lot more at the authors' website. ScanSoft Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 Preferred

4 stars (students should think first before buying it) - This product works very good, as advertised. However, I bought it in hope to use it for my classes. I was using it with Sony ICD-P210 Voice Recorder. Unfortunately, it doesn't work if you record from your desk, even if you sit very close to the teacher (I've tried both Standard and High Quality recording). So if you want to use this program to recognize your teacher's speech, you will have to ask him to wear a microphone, and to hold your recorder in his pocket, and not to move a lot. For most of my teachers, it is not acceptable. Good luck! 4 stars (Memory Hog) - This is a great product. I bought because I am working full-time and going to grad school at night. I have significantly reduced the time required to produce cousework. Comments: 1) I have 1.12 GB of RAM, about 6 paragraphs of dictation kills the memory. I tried using it with 256 MB of RAM and immediately upgraded. 2) Be patient. The software gets better at recognizing your voice. I have found after about 6 paragraphs of dictation it does not recognize my voice as well. Other then that, it's truely amazing. If you were wondering, I am currently typing this out. I was writing a paper and killed the memory with Dragon. Rising Tide- The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America

5 stars (Of Man and the River) - If you thought Hurricane Katrina packed a devastating whallop to the Louisiana and Mississippi Coast, wait until you read this engrossing story of the 1927 Great Mississippi Flood which inundated the entire Misssissippi Delta. Barry does a great job of providing the background for the levee system which has repeatedly failed the Delta because beauracrats were unwilling to bend to any common sense when it came to handling the mighty Mississippi. They insisted on building their levees higher and wider, channeling the river into a raging torrent come high water. The Army Corps of Engineers chose to cling to outdated manuscripts rather than study the situation first hand, which was repeatedly asked for by civil engineers who saw a monumental crisis in the making. Barry makes a good case for Eads' proposal for jetties in deepening the mouth of the Mississippi and creating a greater flow of water into the Gulf of Mexico. While this was done primarily to increase navigation into and from the Port of New Orleans, jetties would have made a lot more sense than a system of levees that essentially served to choke the river. To make matters worse the Corps systematically closed off spillways and refused to cut canals even after the 1922 flood should have served as a warning call. But, Barry treats the rising Mississippi as a metaphorical tool as well, describing Jim Crow South in intimate detail, contrasting the bigoted paternalism of the Percy family with the malignant growth of the Ku Klux Klan, and its impact on Southern politics. It is a well written book that focuses mostly on the Mississippi Delta, the cultural and economic battle for this prized acreage and the river that would ultimately engulf the region. 5 stars (Prophetic and lively read) - John Barry's superb RISING TIDE can be viewed through many prisms, but obviously today, we will all see it through post-Hurricane Katrina eyes. 5 stars (GREAT!) - This book is very nice. I am fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) as of now, but that goal was only reached by taking classes at a local community college. The ASL class used this book and with this book, it was so easy to learn ASL! 5 stars (Great) - I really enjoyed this book. I think it's the best one since Piercing the Darkness and This Present Darkness. It was just a story that I couldn't wait to continue reading. Can't really say enough about it except I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 4 stars (Thought Provoking) - I've always enjoyed reading Frank's book and this one didn't dissapoint. The only week part was surprisingly the spiritual piece. I felt it was kind of stuck in there in an unnatural way. The characters seemed real, then almost awkward in their faith. I don't want to give away the ending, but I loved the surprise of what I thought was happening versus what really was and who the monster was. A must read for everyone, but not those who get spooked in the dark! 4 stars (I liked it : )) - I have to say that when it statred out about Bigfoot I thought "OH Great,what is this???" Magic- Witchcraft- and Religion - An Anthropological Study of the Supernatural

3 stars (Here's my problem with it so far...) - Here's my problem with the book: It presents an unfavorable view of certain types of magick and religions. True, I have not finished the book yet, but all you hav to do is read the negative definitions for the words "withcraft: An EVIL power inhert in certain individuals that permits them...to do HARM or cause others MISFORTUNE;" "New Age: a loosley used term describing a combination of spirituality and superstition, a FAD and FARCE, that SUPPOSEDLY helps believes gain knowledge of the unknown;" and two of the four definitions involving the word magick end with the words "intended victim." Granted, the book was originally written in 1985 when withcraft, magick and Wicca weren't as accepted, but it was reprinted in 2001, so you'd think some of the definitions could have been changed. It just doesn't seem like an objective view of the supernatural and magick, but rather a negatively jaded one. It's getting 3 stars becasue I haven't finished it, and there's always a chance it could redeem itself at the end. ~Koppur 4 stars (good summary of religion) - This book is used by Butte college as well as Chico State. The book consists of independent articles, or exerpts, that illustrate the topics of each chapter. Some of the articles are difficult to read, but in general it does provide useful information. 4 stars (Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion) - I currently use this book as the text for a class I teach at California State University, Chico (Anthropology 40: Magic, Witchcraft, & Religion). I was fortunate enough to have taken this and other courses from the authors Arthur C. Lehmann and James E. Myers. This book serves as a good reader for comparative religions and focuses on non-western societies. Articles on western belief systems are used for comparison and contrasting with the non-western examples. Although targeted for the freshman level, the text assumes the reader have some understanding of anthropology. ...

5 stars (Great program perfect for the disabled - enjoy handsfree) - If you're reading this. You are interested in buying Dragon NaturallySpeaking version eight if you are. I highly recommend it! I had versions of Dragon software, dating back to 1995. Let me tell you the software was clunky back then, being a quadriplegic, I used it to type and move the mouse. But as soon as I got a touchpad mouse. I dropped Dragon altogether. Step forward almost 10 years, I decided that I needed to send longer e-mails than two sentences (because that's all I could type, it gets tiring using only one hand and one knuckle on that hand). So I took the plunge drop the cash on Dragon, and after three days am totally satisfied. I added up and running and dictating in less than 20 minutes. The accuracy is amazing I'm actually typing this by voice. Since I can use a touchpad, I do not use the Dragon NaturallySpeaking for mouse commands. But for dictating it is perfect and quick!!! I'm using it with a 2 GHz processor, and it is fine. Getting it set up was a little quirky with my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. I'm actually using it with a tabletop condenser microphone, not the heads that they came with it (which I found to be quite uncomfortable). Since I'm unable to get the headset on my head, but a tabletop mike is working perfect. So I recommend this product anyone who has a disability that makes typing difficult. Anybody who doesn't want to learn to type (though I think he would be lazy, just suck it up and learn). The software is leaps and bounds above previous versions go for it! Enjoy! ...

5 stars (The Great Resource) - This book is the best and most easy to read for up to date holistic treatments for your pet. I own a lot of animal books, and this one is a keeper!! 4 stars (A great starting point) - Having known relativley little on the subject of raw natural diets, I found this book to be an excellent starting point. It is easy to read, consise, to the point, and is very encouraging for the novice. It has a sample monthly menu which I found invaluable when changing my dogs over to the nautral diet. I have since read many books on the subject but I refer back to this book the most. I would have liked more specific information regarding feeding puppies and their specific growing needs. 3 stars (Too basic, even for a beginner) - I was new to RAW feeding prior to buying this book. I had done some research and reading on the Internet and already understood the concept of RAW feeding - the core food groups and the recommended proportions of each. However, I needed a book that would help me make the transition from just reading to actually preparing the meals for my pets. This book did not do it for me. It is more of a very basic "theory" book than a "practical" one. I bought the book online - if I had had a chance to flip through it first, I would have gone with another book. This book pretty much just explains what the food groups are, how they contribute to the health of your pets and the respective pros and cons. But, like I said, you can get this information for FREE on the Internet! Schultze only gives ONE easy recipe for BOTH dogs and cats, with varying amounts of ingredients depending on the weight of your pet. After joining a few RAW feeding discussion lists, I was told that most of the things I read in the book are NOT recommended by fellow raw feeders (eg: feeding GROUND meat, veggies, kelp & alfalfa supplements and BOTH cod-liver oil and fish oil, etc.) Even I knew going in that you can't use the same recipe for both dogs and cats and yet Schu...

5 stars (Finally speech recognition that works) - Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 is not perfect, but I believe it is as close as possible with today's technology. In fact, upgrading your hardware may be the best way to improve the performance. It happily eats up all the processing power I throw at it, and then some. But the result is better dictation that some office workers could have taken. It misunderstands from time to time, but at least it can spell even long and unusual words. The included headset is of poor quality and should be replaced as soon as possible. This has been the case all the way from version 5 when I first bought it. I have no idea why they would ruin their own reputation to pinch a few pennies like that. It would have been wiser to ship it without hardware at all: This is really a software product, after all. Personally I use a USB headset from Plantronics with very good results. It also works well with a common vocal performance microphone. Coincidentally it will also understand you if you sing... 5 stars (This Rocks) - Much better than previous versions. The engine is cleaner, more precise. Definitely worth upgrading from older versions. 4 stars (Excellent product) - As I sit here with my arm in a cast I am dictating this review using the Dragon software. It installed easily. I have a small problem with the recorder being slightly below what I wanted but the product proved it's worth OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I was able to record lectures and have my computer do all the translation! What an amazing product! It helped me in ways that I cannot explain! I looked on Scansoft's website WWW.SCANSOFT.COM and upgrade to a compatible recorder that was much higher quality. This product is defintely worth the $200 I spent on it. The recorder is great for the first couple classes! It got me thru some serious lectures that I was able to download to my Mp3 and listen to while I worked out! Saves me more time than any other software program out there! Yeah, there is gliches in the verbage, but if you listen to you class AT ALL - you will be impressed with the mobility, the ease and the free use of this product!
