The Myth of Islamic Tolerance- How Islamic Law Treats Non-Muslims

1 stars (Only ever telling HALF the truth) - I am always shocked by non-Muslim writers when they write about Islam with such biased and present it as the truth! If you are going to discuss a topic academically do so critically, presenting all the information so people can make-up their own minds. I agree to a certain extent with the other reviewer (Zaid) when he says `The myth of Muslim tolerance' however I am a person who would not even like to label it under such a general title. I would prefer `The Myth of (the particular ruler of the period) tolerance', which is being far more honest. Are there no records of oppressive `MEN' throughout history in any country or in any religion? Or is this someone, having seen a market, just trying to make a buck by selling a book? Surely we have enough hate in the world! Here is a quote from the Koran. It is crystal clear. "Allah does NOT forbid you to deal JUSTLY and KINDLY with those who did NOT fight against you on account of your religion and did NOT drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah LOVES those who deal with fairness (Surah 60: Verse 8)' Just as in the Bible - in the Koran there are verses that state - an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth etc. In other words you can give as good as you get, but it clearly states you cannot go beyond that and there is a clause! - if you forgive, forget and treat your offender with gentleness and kindness you get a far greater reward from Allah! How can this be a religion of violence? I advise people to not rely on books written about Islam, but instead pick up the Koran and read it - make up your own mind - don't let others do it for you. You owe it to yourself not to have your thinking molded by someone else. I rated it one star - nice picture on the cover. 1 stars (People with little background....) - I am quite alarmed by both this book as well as the reviews it has received. 5 stars (Review of Law in Medicine) - Pozgar's book is organized by legal topic and cites relevant case law in all instances. It is an excellent overview of American law as it applies to the health care practitioner or organization. He has taken a topic that it difficult to communicate and made it very enjoyable reading. Students will find it much easier reading than most graduate level texts. 4 stars (Great information for those new to health care law.) - This book was very useful to me. I am a health information management student planning to enter a graduate health administration program. I took the class and this particular book was the text. Our instructor is a lawyer and runs risk management at our university hospital. The text further explained basic legal priciples and related them to health care. The text is easy to read and gives several references to actual documents. ...

The Road to Reality - A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe

1 stars (Who is the audience for this book?) - This is the first review I have been moved to write ... I bought this book because I like to read other people's perspectives on Physics; particularly when they are as smart as Roger Penrose undoutedly is. I have a PhD in theoretical physics (QFT) so I am hardly uneducated, or uninterested, in these topics. I found that this book tried to jump straight to an elegant mathermatical explanation without trying to impart any of the physical understanding. If you don't already know this material, this book won't help. At several points I just laughed out loud; one in particular when after explaining some arcane point in complex algebra involving a fraction, Penrose adds a comment along the lines of "I explained what a fraction was at the start of the book". He seems to be under the total delusion that you can just present the results of 20yrs of education in as many pages and people will just pick it up. I can only conclude that he is so familiar with this material that he has completely lost touch with its difficulty. The same must be said for those reviewers who liked this book; or else they are just lying to make themselves feel good; or perhaps they don't understand as much as they think they do! 5 stars (Shining brilliance!) - Penrose's book is really a thrilling experience. His intuition is brilliant. His explanations are crisp. His teaching ability can be probably only matched by Feynman. I got the book yesterday, but couldn't stop reading it so far. The first 150 pages I've read gave me a completely new perspective on complex calculus, which I had studied in undergraduate and thought I understood it. I am looking forward to other sections on differential geometry and other advanced topics. 5 stars (What can I say that hasn't already been said) - The fact that this little book has received 135 reviews and counting is because so many want others to share in this. Profound yet simple. Life changing. Contrary thinking to our unsuccessful ways. When Deepak Chopra tells us to quit wasting energy trying to convince others of our opinions, I will need some time to implement that into my life. I know it will come, because now when I am done trying to convince others of my point of view, to no avail, I think back to his advice, and realize I need to acquire it as a natural trait. Realizing each time how much time and energy I just wasted. This just scratches the surface. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

5 stars (Top book for Top leaders) - Most of the time, we just don't know how to get to the next level of happiness and effectiveness. As a result, we flounder, hoping that some random act of character will propel us to the next level, and having no clue what that next level might be. And we stay right where we are. One author said that, "Lunacy is doing the same things repeatedly, expecting different results." and in those days, we exemplify that statement. Then along comes an idea or a series of ideas that changes the landscape. John Maxwell's book on leadership is one of those books. Here we find the ideas we need to hone our character and make our organizations more effective. In effect, while learning to lead others, we actually learn how to lead ourselves. This is true leadership and true influence, and you would be remiss not to take these ideas in and change your path. 3 stars (The book starts well, but quickly degenerates) - I have been in various professional and volunteer leadership positions for more than twenty years, but I am always looking for new ideas on how to become a more effective leader, so the 'Irrefutable' title of this book, plus the recommendation of others, caused me to plunk down a few dollars for the book. I was fairly impressed by the first couple of chapters, and felt that the Chapter where John makes the assertion that "Leadership = Influence" was VERY insightful. In fact this chapter alone was worth the purchase price of the book. So why do I only rate it with 3 stars(and almost rated it 2 stars)? Because of John's overemphasis in later chapters on the personality of the leader and his dismissal of 'difficult people'. Part of the extreme challenge of leadership (especially in volunteer organizations) is dealing effectively with the 'difficult people' in the organization.
