Teach Me Piano Deluxe

3 stars (Just ok) - I know nothing about pianos but was able to go through the first few lessons fine. However, my daughter who is taking piano classes with a private instructor could not benefit too much from this program. Here are my complains: -In the trainer screen, there are pedal icons to start the training session. We have to constantly leave the keyboard to move the mouse. How hard would it be to have users step on the piano pedals or use the keyboard to control the computer? -No midi editor. All of the piano homework we would like to practice using the program have to be entered through other programs. The import function does not always work properly. Too bad if one wants to edit just one note, the whole process has to be redone. -The sheets on the screen are way too small. It is hard to see them. -No way to know which keys are supposed to be the ones to press when doing a song. One has to guess until the computer says it is ok to move on. Try guessing at a piece that requires more than three fingers on each hand on the small vga monitor with all the notes close together. -Old program. We run it on Win98 and it still doesn't properly recognize midi filenames longer than 8.3 characters. Maybe newer version running on WinXP don't have this problem. However, the program hasn't seemed to have changed much over the years. We are going to order Adventus as it seems to address many, if not all, of these issues. 3 stars (Not bad - But numerous bugs and missing features) - Again! There are a few bugs in this 'un-finished' product. Lessons are a little too fast, and there are not that many exercises (to my taste). And, a few items missing: - Why not show what note exactly was not/missed/erroneously played. This would be a very useful feature rather than having to blindly and stubornly play & re-play the same piece until the score comes satisfactory. - Why not show as well where in the piece a time-counting mistake occured when the student plays an...

eMedia Rock Guitar Method

5 stars (Quick start for beginning guitarist) - I found this to be a very good teaching tool to learn to play rock style music. I have never played the guitar before only the violin for eight years while in school. Now I am in my thirties and thought it would be too difficult to learn to play. I have been through the first four lessons and so far it is great. I can work at my own pace, repeat sections I find difficult and play actual songs with lyrics. It is great to play real music not just practice the chords and riffs (although practice is required, it is just more fun). Great piece of sofware. I combined this with a couple of books to study when not at the computer and this worked great for me. Great job eMedia. I look forwrard to additional eMedia song books for rock music. 4 stars (Great so far!) - Though I've odered many times with Amazon, this is the first time I have been excited enough to review a product! I'm an adult who wants to learn guitar for fun and didn't want to play "Mary had a little lamb" and scales for months. I have only used the software for about an hour, and have already been playing parts of songs I actually like! I have been playing guitar for a total of one week prior to receiving this (without any instruction).This is perfect if you don't have the patience or desire to learn the traditional way. I wish I had this when I was 14, I would have loved it. I can't vouch for the whole thing yet, since I've only played with it for an hour, so I give it 4 stars instead of five. From what I've seen I have no reason to expect that it will let me down and highly recommend it. ...

Singing Coach

5 stars (Great Fun and Helpful Product) - I thought this was a really solid piece of software. It taught me alot of things that I needed to know about singing. I am not a professional and could not afford vocal lessons so this really was a HUGE help. The ability to sing a wide range of songs made it even more useful. Being able to see my pitch helped teach me what types of songs are good for me to sing. From what I have seen so far the music library is growing every week with better and better songs. If they keep adding songs like this there really is no limit what I can do with the software. 3 stars (Good for the beginner, but not much more.) - This program has quirky characters that teach you the basics of singing, such as breathing, posture and warm ups. Being able to see what pitch you are hitting helps a lot to strengthen the beginning singer. The reason I gave this only 3 stars, however, is that once you are done with the basics, the only thing that the program can give you is you pitch history while singing one of the songs. While this is a useful information, there isn't a wide enough varity in songs to make using this feature terribly fun and there aren't lessons to encourage you to work through the songs in a specific order. I was also quite disappointed with their online song library. This version comes with 4 free songs to down load from their song library, and I only found two that I was even willing to sing and have a vague liking for. None of my favorite songs were there. The lists of songs were quite small. They also, beyond the 4 free songs, want to charge what I think is an outragous charge per song. Get this if you are a rank beginner or need help with your pitch and are happy practicing on public domain folk songs. eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method Volume 1

5 stars (Great product) - I was completely new to music when I bought this set (CD-ROM and keyboard). I think it is great. It walks you through the basics and when you start playing the music has numbers on it that match up to your fingers (1-5) so you can play as you get the hang of reading music. Gradually they remove some of the numbers so your music reading skills improve. The software grades your playing with a percentage score, and gives you details on your errors (if you want them). Also, it includes short videos of a person playing piano so you can see proper posture and such. Each song comes with (optional) accompaniment, which can make it funner to play (especially with the simple songs). The keyboard that comes with it (optional) has a solid feel, and is touch-sensitive (pressing harder plays louder). The keyboard plugs into the joystick port (probably on your sound card). 5 stars (quality product) - I got this product yesterday and started to learn by it. after browsing it and using it for the first 17 lessons this is my impression. what you get in this product is 100% of quality content and less emphasize on look and graphics. and if you want to learn playing the keyboard, so the quality of the teaching is more important then other features. the teacher leading the instruction process using video clips and audio tracks, is Irma Justicia MA which is a experienced piano teacher. after 17 lessons i fell in love with her .it feels just lilke i'm in a real lesson with her. for my non proffesinal impression this product is good for absolute beginners to the intermediate level. it is also said on the product that it is volume 1 so probably they are going to issue more products in this piano keyboard line just as they done with the guitar. cause of the simplicity of the graphics you can use it on any computer,old and new. but still you get many sophisticated features like interactive feedback using midi cable. for summary ...GOOD WORK. ...

5 stars (A thorough approach to learning piano keyboard) - After searching for some time for a good piano tutorial software I ended up at Best Buy and, almost by accident, came across Interactive Keyboard written by Laurie Arthur. As a disclaimer, I am in no way tied to the promoter or the promotion of this product. My previous exposure to piano was limited to a group piano course at a junior college and some self-training, specifically with the old Miracle Piano Teaching System which is now obsolete. I have been working with the program for a few days now and I believe I am developing solid technique beyond my prior education. The initial setup was tricky (program loaded fine on Windows '98SE but I needed a MIDI in/out cable-to-USB to hook up my antiquated Kawai KC10 Spectra synthesizer in addition to having to download a driver for the cable hookup, although any modern keyboard should adapt just fine) but once I got rolling I found the program both intuitive and fun. The software package comes with a 222 page manual that is simply loaded with valuable information on technique, music theory, improvisational methods, proper form and exercises, and a host of other information, as well as "Fifty Famous Feels"; a variety of samples of music in different styles one can playback and with which one can play along. The program seems geared toward the adult learner who is intent on getting a grasp of the piano in an accelerated fashion, though a bright child with some keyboard skills could benefit as well. From the beginning, the program sets out what is required of the student and provides ample exercises at increasingly difficult levels, along with a "Comp-u-Pare" facility that enables one to record the recital of exercises (with or without the accompanying backtrack/rhythm) and test her/his skills and abilities. Casio LK-90TV 61-Key Lighted Keyboard with Karaoke Function

5 stars (I played Moonlight Sonata without a single lesson!) - This is an outstanding keyboard. I've never had a piano lesson, yet I was able to play Moonlight Sonata right after taking it out of the box. This keyboard has a feature that lights the keys you are supposed to play about 2 seconds before you are supposed to play them. As a result, you are able to play complicated songs without a single lesson, or reading a single page of sheet music. It's very satisfying. While I am teaching myself to play the piano, I am able to play beautiful and complicated songs. It's a great way to stay motivated. My keyboard did not come with an adapter either, so you'll have to pick one up seperately. 1 stars (No adapter....This was a rip-off) - I bought this and took it to another state to give to my grandchildren on Christmas Day. What a disappointment. Grandpa thought there was an adapter "in the box" as advertised so we had the whole day with no adapter and no batteries. I notified Amazon immediately. They sent me another whole keyboard but no adapter again. I will have to think twice about believing anything Amazon has in its ads. There were plenty of other places to get this, maybe I should have gone to a store where they could show me what was in the box before I disappoint my grandkids again. 4 stars (Cool keyboard) - Got this key board for Christmas for my mom. But she also got me one. There is no ac adapter in the box like item describes only downer. Lots of fun though. Bass Method 1

5 stars (Great software) - I'm in my 40's and was able to pick up my father's 30 year old electric bass and learn how to play very quickly. I've been using the program about 3 months and try to play 1/2 to 1 hour every day. Besides learning the songs included in the program I have been able to play Cream songs Badge and Sunshine of Your Love by teaching myself. As for the details: 1. There is no problem with XP. I have a desktop and a laptop and both run the program without any problems 2. Tuner works great and is very very helpful 3. The program records your playing whenever you want. It is easy to use 4. When playing songs you can turn off the bass line in the song, leave the bass line in, or just play the bass line without the music 5. Moving between lessons is painless and very easy I can't say enough about this software. It's great and I am only on lesson 43. You won't be disappointed with the software. It's a good investment and you will be very happy with the results 5 stars (No more beginner's books! ** WORKS WITH THE MAC! **) - Forget beginner's books! Save your money and buy this program, the ability to play along with the computer while you watch the notes/chord progression alone is something that no book/ audio cd will ever match. The way the lessons are presented is excellent, giving visual types like me direct re-enforcement on what the lesson is all about by giving you follow-along examples, and most importantly encouraging you to improvise and experiment. I've been learning the bass on and off for a couple of years and while I can already play along with many songs and improvise a bit I have found even the most basic lessons in this program to be very useful. I'm really looking forward to the sight reading section of the course! Highly recommended! eMedia Blues Guitar Legends

5 stars (Mesmerizing!) - There is simply no better way to learn these songs. You can isolate different sections of the music and loop them over and over (both the audio and the tab/notation). You can even slow it down. The animated fretboard is also very cool. It plays the notes in time with the music. It even bends the notes. I only wish they'd make more. 2 stars (Poor user interface, technical problems) - I spent about an hour getting this to work correctly. I am disappointed with the interface and the lack of lesson information. Not a bad product but there are better guitar programs for sure 4 stars (Great fun but not for beginners) - This is a wonderful CDRom. The songs are mighty enjoyable, and eMedia lets you see exactly how the blues greats created the toe-tapping music that they did. But be warned: learning to play these songs using the eMedia system isn't for rank beginners. I'm a classical guitar player with over a decade of playing experience, and I had to slow the songs to less than half their speed to even have a fighting chance of keeping up. You're expected to already know some blues techniques and have some accessories (e.g. a glass slide). Eventually, I know I'll get the hang of these songs and have a great time. But it's gonna take practice, practice, practice. ...

The metronome and tuner would not work, and the menus had extraneous symbols. None of these were a killer, but a bit annoying. Then I switched to my old computer running Windows 98, and everything worked fine. For the program itself, it's great! There is video of the instructor (sometimes with a split view to show both hands), songs to play along with, an animated fretboard, audio clips with more suggestions or reminders, a guitar chord dictionary, and the aforementioned tuner and metronome. Portions of the music can be selected to repeat, to aid practice. The songs include the voice and guitar parts. A very good program for a beginner bassist. ...

eMedia Intermediate Guitar Method

5 stars (you will be able to play some great stuff) - eMedia intermediate guitar method is an excellent system to expand on your beginner skills. I have now been playing guitar for four months and have gotten better than some of my friends that have been playing for over a year. I finished the CD so I am lending it out now to these same friends. I started out with the eMedia beginner guitar method and soon after bought this CD. I had attempted to play guitar for perhaps two days before this present time. From this series, I am now comfortable with chords, barre chords, bass walks, finger picking (arpeggios and travis style), hammer-ons, pull-offs, trills, and reading notes. The method has gotten me excited to buy my first electric guitar, practice bends, and learn more about lead guitar playing. The stuff you learn to play on this CD simply sounds cool. There is a sweet Grateful Dead tune, All Along the Watch Tower, several classic rock pieces, an excellent 12-bar blues solo, there is some country/bluegrass, a few classic guitar pieces (Bach, Pachelbel), and an amazing Jimi Hendrix solo for All Along the Watch Tower. All the songs are recorded from a live guitar player so you will know how each song will sound. When I first browsed through the CD, I thought to myself "There is no way I will be able to sound like that". And yet after much practicing, I got through the CD, can play all the pieces well, and am so happy that I am now a decent guitar player. I continue to be excited to learn. I think the Fretboard Logic series will help me develop a better understanding of the fretboard and build up my lead guitaring skills. I wanted to add this review to show that this system is still a great way to learn. I am thankful to eMedia for putting out a product that is showing me that it is never to late to learn to play guitar. 4 stars (This one's a winner. Check it out.) - It was really cool how this CDROM was put together. Very user friendly & easy to install & run. You can hear the finished product, watch the guitar tabs to see how it is played with adjustable MIDI Music control to speed it up or slow it down. Mute the part you want to play & jam along with the band. Cool stuff! It also includes a brief history of the song & the artist, which is always interesting. If I had had this type of instruction as a teen I probably wouldn't have sucked so bad as a musician. I would have been able to better keep up my interest & enthusiam because CDROMs like this provide continuous access & infinite patience in teaching the more difficult songs & unique styles. I always learned from friends who gave me 5 minutes, then walked. Granted this CD includes a diverse, "something-for-everyone" approach adding classical & country tunes to rock & blues. For that I only gave it four stars & also because there is no clip of the musician actually playing the guitar on the Demo like Voyetra's "Teach Me Rock Guitar". But it must be conceded that Voyetra could only fit four songs on their CD while this one has 21 diverse tunes. eMedia website also provides good software support for these guitar series. 5 stars (Great Product!) - This CDROM has it all. Music, TAB, play along with either the MIDI version of the song OR the audio version. The audio versions have track muting capability so you can mute the vocal or the Guitar or Bass. The nicest feature is the animated fret board so you if you don't know a chord or aren't that familiar with playing lead in the 7th position: have no fear, this feature cuts right through all of that. This CDROM is formatted for Windows AND Mac: which makes ordering easier too! ...
