The Sacred Romance- Drawing Closer to the Heart of God

5 stars (...Out of the dark night he leaps like a stranger to cripple and to bless...) - My guess is that readers who think they already have a good handle on life and Christian doctrine will probably be disappointed with this book. Likewise, this book will disappoint readers who want to see concepts like faith, hope, love, idolatry, grace, election, predestination, etc., expressed in religious language with which they are familiar, and not in language (and metaphors) in which people of our culture commonly express what is important to us and what drives us. Many thoughtful, ardent, traditionally-minded, well-meaning Catholics, Calvinists, etc., will not like this book. Readers, however, who are desperately asking questions like, "Why do I have to hurt so much? When can I finally get out of the situation I am in? Why am I so burned out even though I have done everything I know to be faithful to Christ? How can I be so lonely? Why does this addiction keep re-surfacing? What is God doing here?" will probably find this book a God-send. I re-read this book recently at precisely such a time in my life, and it was wonderful. It reminded me that God is not after my religious devotion and doctrinal comformity, he wants my *heart*, the deepest center of myself, and that he may well invade my life in a way that hurts me, that strikes me as ruthless and devastating, in order to get it. God is committed to my sharing and radiating his glory--nothing less. Amazing. In my view, one of the best aspects of this book is its emphasis not just on what God has promised to share with us (beauty, intimacy, adventure, glory), but *when* he will share it. Yes, we get a substantial foretaste now, but our deepest longings will be finally, fully satisfied only when we see him. Until Jesus comes back, God will mess with our lives and our idols in order to make sure that we don't get distracted by anything less than the awesome destiny he is preparing for us. 3 stars (Offer some alternatives please....) - Just a note to 'john of a world class architectual firm'. Good to read an honest critique. I agree to a certain point. Yet as a student of landscape architecture, I am always on the lookout for quaility publications and learning tools. What publications have you read or currently refer to in your practice? Any help is good help in my opinion... However, in trying to find out if this newer edition (2002) is improved, I was unable to do so since there are no reviewers of this edition. I do not understand why Amazon transferred the reviews from the old edition to this newer one. (Note that reviews below are dated before the 2002 publication date of this edition.) It is a basic text that alows a student to learn to draw graphics and symbols. The excersize in the back of the book are very helpful when first learning to draft graphics. It does not address computer graphics. If you want to produce those kinds of plans it is best to take a course in computer graphics. When first learning to draw graphics one has to start somewhere. This book does a great job! ...

Perspective for Interior Designers

5 stars (Friendly) - I really like the book!... The content of this book it's easy to understand. 4 stars (Very Helpful) - This is a great book to have. Easy reading, nice illustrations, great information. 5 stars (Worth every penny! A must have for anyone who renders) - This book takes perspective to another level. I have been taught perspective before with 1, 2, and/ or 3 vanishing points, so I thought that I knew what I was doing. But sometimes I just had to eyeball some of the perspective in my drawings, because objects would look too distorted. This book showed me what I was doing (and taught at art school) that was acceptable but not perfect. Within the first few pages, I easily learned the correct rules to doing perspective from a floor plan at any point of view that I choose. I am a graphic designer for retail interiors and " Perspective for Interior Designers " has made my life so much easier. It's very easy to understand and follow...a must have! ...

It's an excellent reference book, covering everything that is needed for interior design drafting: from line weights to scale, dimensioning, plans, elevations, sections, checklists, furniture and finish schedules, contract documents, and the list goes on. 5 stars (A good handbook for interior details!) - The day I received the Interior Graphic Standards , I used some of the details in the book for a project I was working on. This book provides information, including construction details, which are very useful to the practicing architect and interior designer. 5 stars (Bible of Interior Design~!) - I'm an Interior Design student at Ryerson University in Toronto, and I have never seen a book that is as comprehensive as the IGS. It covers almost everything. I've used this book as a reference for almost every school project I've done. My professor strongly recommended this book to us, but at first I was hesitated to buy it because of the price. However I found it cheaper to buy online than in retail bookstores. I told my classmates about it and showed them the book, after they've seen it they said they are all gonna buy it. Overall this book is worth its price and I strongly recommend it~! 5 stars (Most Comprehensive and Remarkable Book for the Industry) - This book is a remarkable achievement, from cover to cover! A must buy for anyone in the industry (or anyone interested in the industry)!!! I have been a practicing Interior Designer for eighteen years and I have yet to see anything as comprehensive and remarkable as this book! Even the Architectural Graphic Standards book pales by comparison! There is a section on Wood Veneers and Flooring with (12) pages of beatiful and informative color plates! There is even a Color Theory (color plate) section that is very useful! Graphic Guide to Frame Construction - Details for Builders and Designers

5 stars (Framing) - This is a wonderful addition to any collection of carpentry books. Good clear explanations, precise drawings, and a great resource for experts and novice alike. 5 stars (EXCELLENT RESOURCE BOOK) - i am a 3rd year arch. student with some minimal understanding of general wood construction.Coming from a design oriented school they dont really teach any practical knowledge of the field but i personally think that i need to know some of it to get myself prepared, even before i graduate.This book helps a lot.It has a lot of information regarding the common practices we find outside with adequate amount of details to make you understand.Picture is worth a thousand words and this book is all about that.You do need to have some basic knowledge though to fully understand.The only con i would consider is that scope is only limited to typical residential wood construction.For project details of bigger size and greater complexity you need to look further. 3 stars (It's Ok, There are Better Books) - It is all about graphics in this book, a method of presenting that I enjoy but it needs some text and why behind those graphs.
